Haku

The Youth Arts Initiative have completed their first large scale puppet as part of their plans for going to Anime North. They chose Haku from the Studio Ghibli production of Spirited Away.

The YAI troop brought Haku to the Big Medicine Studio for a surprise visit to some of the youth participating in an Aanmitaagzi dance class facilitated by Penny Couchie.

The YAI members gained important experience manipulating this 20 foot dragon as they will have to navigate the streets of Toronto later this month.

YAI is scheduled to create several more puppets this summer as part of the White Water Gallery and we look forward to their future creations.

get involved

A sky lantern event will be taking place at the closing of the Active Arts Festival 2012. Location is still “to be announced” but a demo for all volunteers will be taking place this summer as a way to ensure safety measures are followed.

As part of our “get involved” campaign volunteers will be decorating these lanterns with pro-active slogans before releasing them into the night sky.

These lanterns are bio-degradable and non-harmful to our environment. We are looking at releasing over 100 of these at the end of this years festival!

THE ACTIVE ARTS FESTIVAL WANTS YOU!

In line with our pro-active community building mandate, the Active Arts Festival is rallying local volunteers to participate in our “get involved” campaign.  The philosophy of “Get Involved, Make Things Happen! has been the general public statement made by the White Water Gallery over the past two years. It is a general call to action to everyone to do their part in making our world a better place by volunteering and creating a better sense of “community” in everything we do.

The “get involved” campaign is a volunteer drive that profiles ways of helping within the local community and making this region a better place to live. Individuals that are interested in volunteering are asked to register for the Active Arts Festival on our website (Registration coming soon). Organizations that need volunteers are encouraged to create a community activity as part of the Active Arts Festival as a way to tap into new prospects and grow community connections.

Get involved with a pro-active approach to making your community a better place by participating in the Active Arts Festival!
